Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
